the first time i met danielle, i was breastfeeding ava when she walked in the front door of my mom's house with my little brother hunter and his best friend, sawyer. i was all awkward. some people are poised breastfeeding in public; i was never one of those people. danielle is sawyer's girlfriend, so i guess she didn't really have a choice in becoming hunter's best friend too. hunter and sawyer have been best friends since they were like thirteen and played video games all night in their underwear (oh wait, some things never change?)
i knew danielle was one of my people when she would come over on weekends and watch the boys play video games (david included...yikes) and we would make treats and sit in our pajamas and basically do nothing and be perfectly content with it. i also knew she was one of my people when she snapped an iphone photo of hunter and sawyer holding ava with the caption "the happy couple and their new baby." and i knew she was one of my people when she would bark at sawyer when he would lovingly ask my mom what was for dinner, "sawyer you don't live here!" or when she would come over and eat microwaved chicken patties and bring hunter the homework he missed because he stayed up too late playing said video games and couldn't make it to class.
danielle is one of my people. she is a true-blue friend. she is someone you can be around in your husband's pajamas and a messy bun and not a stitch of makeup. she is a truly special person who lights up the room with her goodness.
my eighth resolution is to be a true-blue friend like her.
there are so many people in my life who have had my back and loved me and shown me genuine friendship. and unfortunately so many of those people don't get the regular calls and catch-ups they deserve. know this, my friends: i appreciate and love you a whole lot, even when all i have to give to you sometimes is an instagram comment or a quick text. you are my people, too.
so back to danielle: she has started a little business called origami owl selling the cutest personalized jewelry items just in time for valentine's day. each piece can be customized down to the very last detail: charms, lockets, plates, chains, dangles, the whole she-bang. in her own words:
"I started with the company in November and was instantly in love with everything. The product, the people, and for what the company itself stood for. Our mission statement is 'to be a force for good; to love, inspire, and motivate people of all ages to reach their dreams and empower them to make a difference in the lives of others.' The best part of the product is that it is completely personalized. Each charm that you pick to be inside your locket can tell a story or something about yourself. And if you get it as a gift for someone, you can really show how well you know them by the products you pick for them. I've had a few customers give it to family/friends as gifts and their reactions are priceless."
shop danielle's website here and pick up a little something for someone you love this upcoming valentine's day.
