don't get me wrong here, i am super excited about ava learning and becoming a baby genius and preparing for kindergarten and whatever, but really...part of me thinks the best part of preschool is the 2.5 hours of uninterrupted time i get to myself.
david and i went on a little day date to the nursery today to pick out new plants for the urn at my front door. the nursery is one of my favorite places to go -- i love to see all the plants and search for shade plants that will flourish under my porch.
shade plants are a little bit hard to come by and fairly limited, but i have found a certain few that are gorgeous and really thrive with no light. coleus, ivy and ferns always do amazing in the shade and although it gets super cold here in texas during the winter, my fern was a rockstar and lasted through the whole season. the key to a flourishing plant is to fertilize and water consistently. every time there's an unclaimed half-full water bottle lying around (which is surprisingly more often than you'd think,) i take the opportunity to dump it on my plant and save myself on the water bill. also, right now is a great time to plant for most states! the 100 degree weather is over and it's not too cold yet, so plants have time to adapt to their new environments and grow.
