i have a thing for wrapping paper. i love it. someday i want a big craft room with rolls and rolls of beautiful wrapping paper mounted to the walls. so please be aware that if i am ever giving you a gift, it will most definitely not come in a gift bag. wrapping paper or bust.
so christmas shopping is especially exciting for me because not only do i get to pick out gifts, but i get to pick out the coordinating wrapping paper. and call me crazy, but i even have themes and wrapping paper that i think "looks like someone." so when i was choosing paper for my family, i was instantly drawn to the indie feel of the prints above. they are casual and fun and contemporary cool without screaming christmas but still clearly being christmas wrapping paper. (nothing worse than getting birthday paper at christmas or christmas paper on your birthday.)
my favorite parts of this wrapping trio are how well they vibe together and how inexpensive they were. everything is from target, and the floral papers were purchased for $5 for both (buy one get one free deal) and the butcher paper-esque paper was found in the dollar section. i always pick up bakers twine in the dollar section when i see it and i'm accumulating quite the collection. i love a big fancy bow, but i also love the understated knot or carefree bow made with this twine. i bought the tags in the dollar section also and used some stamps that i had on hand.
so i know, i know. i am a nut. presents take all of 10 seconds to unwrap and you're like...why do you care so much?? i think i am just a sucker for beautiful things and creating things with my hands. there is something about creating tangible things that just sings to my soul. whether i'm baking or painting or wrapping gifts, i love to make beautiful things. so if you appreciate my beautiful wrapping, hey that's cool, thanks!! i think we will be friends! (but i did it for me ;)
but what about you?? what is your wrapping like this year? what theme are you going with? rumor has it, santa is going for a classic look with big red bows! are you the gift bag type? just please tell me you're not the cheesy plastic-y premade bow type. i've got my eyes peeled for some black satin ribbon. i think that might be the perfect addition to my growing collection.
so here's some tips on how to wrap gorgeous presents that will make all of your gift-receivers (with good taste) gasp:
- pick a color scheme and stick with it! color coordinated presents under the tree will make your christmas decor that much more dreamy. bright colors or classy neutrals?
- pick a theme and stick with it. vintage christmas or glam christmas?
- buy fancy ribbon. don't buy those dumb premade bows that come in giant bags at walmart. or the plastic-y ribbon that you have to curl with scissors. no. costco has awesome ribbon that is super affordable and lasts for.e.ver. and by forever i mean one whole christmas because i am really into bows.
- get creative with your ribbon! i am loving the bakers twine (obviously!) but have also wanted to try using a knobby yarn or a thin glitter ribbon. maybe some pom-pom ribbon? options are endless.
- use tie-on tags, never sticky ones. i just hate the sticky ones. sorry.
- always fold over the edge when wrapping the sides. no one likes a raw edge!
- use gender appropriate paper. this is kind of just for kids, but i don't think my eight year old nephew would be too stoked about glitter paper and pink bows.
okay, i'm done being a wrapping paper snob. i hope we can still be friends and you won't judge me too much?
